NPD Figs Down Eight Percent

The downward spiral of sales for the video game industry continue for the seventh consecutive month. The silver lining in the NPD's March report? The eight percent dip from last March was better than the 18-20% drop that analysts forcasted.
With total sales falling just under $500 million, Microsoft's Xbox 360 accounted for $96 million of the month's sales. Sony's PlayStation 2 sold 273,000 units, while Microsoft's Xbox 360 still suffered from unavailability and sold 192,000 units. With the stress of unavailability reportedly lifting in April, this might be the first month where people who want an Xbox 360 will be to grab them, making next month's NPD report particularly interesting.

Each passing month is one month less Microsoft will have to build its user base before Sony and Nintendo introduce their next-generation consoles at the end of the year.
